Top News #5

While there are other things in the news right now, 21.7 million pounds of beef being recalled, the requirements of passports to travel to Mexico and Canada, Duke’s president apologizing to the lacrosse players, nothing seems like it has the potential to affect more people than the feuding between the United States and Iran, a nation who is now claiming that the United States is the terrorist. The Iranian parliament’s 215 lawmakers stated, “The aggressor U.S. Army and the Central Intelligence Agency are terrorists and also nurture terrorism.”
However, it is the U.S. that believes that Iran is harboring a terrorist organization known as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. It is also speculated that Iran is supporting Iraq in the War against Terrorism.
However, this story is not just about name calling. Iran plans on doing more than just lip service as they plow straight ahead in their pursuit of creating their own nuclear program.

Impact – If tensions continue to escalate between the U.S. and Iran it could affect hundreds of thousands of lives, not only here in America but in Iran as well.

Timeliness - Iran’s parliament made this decision/announcement the same week that President Ahmadinejad visited our country. Iran is definitely a hot news topic these days. I find it ironic that a man, who claims that his country doesn’t have any homosexuals within it, would within the same week call us (America) “arrogant.”

Prominence – The President of Iran is definitely within the public’s eye

Conflict – The entire story focuses around America’s current tension with Iran

Currency – Anything to do with politics in the Middle East is in the “spotlight of public concern” these days, due to the war.
